What do Easter eggs have to do with gaming you may ask? Throughout the thesis you encountered a lot of gaming terms, which might be new for you. A secret message is exactly what an Easter egg is. Easter eggs are hidden references or inside jokes hidden by the developers in the game. Easter Eggs are most of the time not connected to the game itself, for instance references to other games, pop references or happenings in the real world.



Hit Points (HP)
HP is an attribute in video games that determines the maximum amount of damage that a character or object can take. If the amount of health is fully depleted, the character dies or loses consciousness.

Most valuable player
MVP is an abbreviation for the most valuable player. In sports, players are often awarded with the title of MVP for exemplary performance on and contributions to their teams during a season.

GL
Normally used is most gaming online lobbies. The term refers to GOOD LUCK, may also be used in conjunction with GG (good game) or HF (have fun).

Skills
Skills are a player's attributes that can be advanced throughout the game. Skills are trained by repetitive actions that give experience in the skill, until enough experience is earned for the next level. Some skills allow players to cook food, chop down trees, make fires, use magic and more.

Raids
Raids is a game mode of Destiny in which 6-player cooperative assassination missions that are of high challenge, and require communication between players to succeed. They involve specific quests for groups of fireteams.

Player count
Amount of people playing a game.

Cosmetics
Game Cosmetics are modifiers, which, when equipped, change the way certain items look in-game.

Patch
A patch is an update for a video game which fixes bugs and corrects any problems with a previous version.

Bugs
A "bug" is unintended behaviour of a program/game. This can be a crash or a showstopper or anything else that is unforeseen.

Glitch
A "glitch" is a bug that does not result in a crash or anything similar, but it does something the user/player can "profit" of.

Render
Rendering or image synthesis is the process of generating a photorealistic or non-photorealistic image from a 2D or 3D model by means of a computer program. The resulting image is referred to as the render.

Engine
A game engine, also known as a game framework or gameframe, is a software-development environment designed for people to build video games.

Shooters
Shooters are a subgenre in video games, in which the player controls a character using weapons against non-player characters (NPC) or against other players online.

Noobs
Newbie, newb, noob, or nub is a slang term for a novice or newcomer, or somebody inexperienced in a profession or activity.

Killstreak
You have a killstreak when you have an unbroken streak of kills. A lot of games give a reward, which helps you in-game.

Quest
A quest, or mission, is a task in video games that a player-controlled character, party, or group of characters may complete in order to gain a reward.

Toxic
Usually used to describe a very negative person, that bitch about everything, spread unnecessary hate or just talk shit about others. You can meet these people in any online game community and they are the main coin of online gaming.

Lobbies
Lobbies are menu screens where players can inspect the upcoming game session, examine the results of the last, change their settings, and talk to each other.

Campaign
In role-playing games, a campaign is a continuing storyline or set of adventures, typically involving the same characters. Usually campaigns are played solo and offline.
